How do I get in shape?

That’s the million (or should I say trillion) dollar question. We all think about it. Most of us do something to work toward it, if only small or momentary. Heck, most people set New Year’s resolutions around something that is wellness-related. If that’s the case, you’d think that everyone would be walking around with 6-pack abs, eating healthy, and getting 8+ hours of sleep each night. For most, that’s not the current reality, however there is a ton of hope and the secret is, it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. With this in mind, we’ve created a simple, free blueprint to follow to help you get in shape below.

Health, wellness, and fitness is a 1.5 trillion dollar industry, according to McKinsey & Company. Each year, billions of dollars are spent on marketing products and services that claim to help consumers with their physical wellness. By design, marketing is created to:

A.) Convince you that you have a problem

B.) Offer you a solution in the form of a good or service to “solve” the problem.

Some examples of companies you may have heard of:

Here’s a dirty little secret… Many of these products and services are a WASTE of your money!

Now, we aren’t picking on these companies. They help thousands of people each year. The point is, that they are addressing symptoms instead of finding the root cause.

The goal of this blog post and of Wellness Definition is to simplify wellness and to make wellness accessible to all.

This means finding low/no cost options along with demystifying the seemingly complicated in order to make it simple, approachable, and sustainable for you to follow and achieve your various wellness goals.

Read on if you want to learn simple, low/no cost ways to get in shape and approach your physical wellness.

Below is a simple framework to approach your physical wellness.
As you can see, it’s concise enough to fit on a post it note.
There are three main aspects to your physical wellness:
  • Move – how you move your body
  • Eat – what you eat and drink
  • Sleep – the amount and quality
Two determinations you need to make for each:
  • What (you’re going to do)
  • When (you’re going to do it)
Three lens: (to view this through)
  • Simple – is it easy to understand and follow (can I fit it on a post it note?)
  • Sustainable – can I do this for years (vs. days/weeks)
  • Unique – is this right for ME? (not worrying about outside influence)

Here’s a quick example:

  • Daily walk from 12:00-12:30
  • Take the kids to the park on Saturday from 12:00-1:00
  • Meal 1: Oatmeal Bowl + Plant-Based Protein Shake
  • Meal 2: Chicken Stir Fry
  • Meal 3: Salmon, sweet potato, mixed veggies
  • Sleep: 10:00pm
  • Wake: 6:00am

As you can see this plan is simple and does not cost a dime, outside your normal grocery bill.
